Thursday Movie Picks Television Edition: Friendship

This is the final hurdle before 2018 rolls in and I start this Thursday Movie Picking all over again. Not gonna lie, I’m already excited for next year because there are some amazing themes coming up and my mind is already racing to figure out the recommendations. That being said, take a look at my last Television Picks of the year all about that precious friendship.

1. FRIENDS (1994 – 2004)

There hasn’t been a show which I have watched and loved more than Friends. Sure, I haven’t seen it in years now, but most of my childhood and teenage years were spent watching Friends over and over again. I know the jokes, I know the punchlines, I know when and what happens, but I never got tired of laughing. It’s iconic to say at least, and I sure do miss it (but not enough to want a reunion or something, I have a feeling it wouldn’t work!)

2. PARKS & RECREATION (2009 – 2015)

Closest I’ve got to the Friends mania is with Parks & Recreation, which also explores friendship in the most honest and adorable way. It has great characters, and amazing character development and there’s just something about Leslie that aspires us all to be more like her. There are many friendships in this show, and anyone can find one that speaks to them the most.

3. CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND (2015 – …)

Thanks to my flatmate, I started watching this crazy show just this year and I can’t believe I hadn’t watched it sooner. It is great, and it has so many weird and catchy re-imagined songs that get stuck in your head. It explores relationships between ex-boyfriends and co-workers, and while it gets a bit out of hand at times, this show is something special.

    Parks and Recreation has one of the best TV friendships there was. I would want to be part of that group! I might give Crazy Ex-Girlfriend a try someday.

      I was so hesitant to go for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend but I love it! It’s so odd and it’s refreshing for me, since I tend to only watch serious shows nowadays.

    I watch Friends every day because I always have Comedy Central on and they are always showing it, Parks and Rec is the only other show that I think is close to being this warm and happy as Friends

      I know! It doesn’t have that sort of unnecessary drama shows tend to have, like everything that happens to them, is fueled by outside factors, but the friendships are always solid. Argh, I miss both shows. I might watch Parks and Rec after my Gilmore Girls marathon.

    A Thursday never went by that I didn’t make sure I was in front of the TV at 8 to see Friends. It was almost always brilliant though the whole Rachel/Joey semi romance was a mistake. I’ll still go on kicks and watch a series of episodes every now and then. I’ve never seen any of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend but I’ve heard good things about Parks & Rec but have never picked up the habit of watching.

    i thought about picking Friends but decided to go with an all female driven lineup.

    Desperate Housewives (2004-2012)-On a quiet day on the quiet suburban street of Wisteria Lane housewife Mary Alice Young picks up a gun and blows her brains out. After that less than lovely introduction Mary Alice becomes our guide and narrator through the wacky often chaotic lives of her group of women friends Susan, Lynette, Gabrielle, Bree and for a while their fremeny Edie (Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Nicolette Sheridan) who all reside on the same street. Through the eight years the series ran the women at times were at odds but when push came to shove their friendship remained strong.

    The Golden Girls (1985-1992)-Four mature women (three widows & a divorcee), man hungry Southerner Blanche Deveraux (Rue McClanahan), naïve Midwesterner Rose Nyland (Betty White), New Yorker Dorothy Zbornak (Beatrice Arthur) and her mother Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) share Blanche’s home and each other’s lives in the Miami suburbs. Over many cheesecakes the quartet talk about everything under the sun including aging, sex, artificial insemination and a myriad of other things interlaced with Rose’s often idiotic hometown Saint Olaf stories. They bicker, argue and fight but consistently support each other when it really matters. What makes this so special and constantly rewatchable is that four of the best comedic actresses that ever lived interact in every episode like a well-oiled machine.

    Laverne & Shirley (1976-1983)-Slapstick shenanigans of two Milwaukee brewery workers and best friends Laverne DeFazio (Penny Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams). A succession of predicaments happen weekly which require the girls to extricate themselves from in some outlandish fashion as their strange upstairs neighbors Lenny & Squiggy (Michael McKean & David Lander) pop in and out along with Shirley’s sometimes boyfriend Carmine “The Big Ragoo” Ragusa (Eddie Mekka).

    I watched a bit of Parks and Rec and enjoyed it. Friends was something all my friends watched except me. I never got into it.

    Aaah! CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND!!! I feel like not enough people are watching it, so I am glad to see it on your list.
    This might sound like a super silly choice, but I would put Girl Meets World on that list. I thought I couldn’t get through that show and then I kinda just fell in love with it.

        It used to be on Disney channel and it’s nothing like the original Boy Meets World in my eyes, but I really fell for it somehow.

    I loved Friends especially poor Ross when he would get into predicaments-the leather pants episode. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the other 2
