Just as the seasons change, my tastes and preferences have shifted over time. There were days when I had up to ten different shows running on my weekly schedule. Then came Netflix, and with it the binge-watching era. Not long after, I stumbled into the world of K-dramas and Asian dramas, which perfectly filled my craving for fairytale romance. And now, it seems I’m stepping into a brand-new era: anime. My introduction? None other than Demon Slayer.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese television series based on the manga of the same name, first released in 2019. Set in Taishō-era Japan, the story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a teenage boy who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is slaughtered and his sister Nezuko is turned into a demon. The Corps is an organisation of humans dedicated to hunting demons, and through it Tanjiro begins a journey that is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

The first season, with its 26 episodes, takes us through Tanjiro’s transformation—from a boy selling charcoal to a swordsman wielding a katana, training tirelessly, and fighting demons while desperately searching for the one who cursed his sister. Along the way, he encounters allies, enemies, and a wide cast of colorful and terrifying demons.
From there, the adventure expands. The second season is shorter, just seven episodes, and unfolds entirely on a train. It’s intense, emotional, and left me completely hooked. At this point I’m already into the third season, set in Tokyo’s Entertainment District. Since I haven’t finished it yet, I don’t know where the story will head next, but I’m excited to find out.
Watching Demon Slayer has been such a fun way to step into the anime world, and I’m glad I started with it. Now I have a long list of anime treasures waiting for me. That said, I might need a breather between seasons—season two left me an emotional wreck, and some of the storylines can get heavy.
Still, I’m eager to keep going, and I’d love to hear recommendations for what anime I should dive into next.
