Sitting down to write these weekly posts (sometimes cramping two or three weeks into one post, this time including an unpublished CB draft!), I always struggle to remember what I have been up to. Good thing I log almost everything into online platforms, such as Letterboxd and Goodreads. Now I only need to start keep track of my shows better, and I’m good to go. Anyway, here are two+two weeks worth of rambles.
Last two weeks have been polar opposites. The week before the last I worked a lot, last week I didn’t have much work so I went home for almost a week. I had to work from there, but that’s alright. Last week I also got a new tattoo, which means my sleeve is starting to look like a sleeve. It’s almost healed at this point, and I’m so happy how good it looks. A bit haunting, which is what drew me to this design, but gorgeous nonetheless.
Also got a few new plants to my room, which means my room is now 50% books and 40% plants. Not exactly the right ration but it feels like this. There’s a pile of books next to my bed now and I have filled my bookshelf completely. Which is good, but it also means I have a lot to read now. By the way, my bookstagram account hit 1k last week and I feel like a proud mama. Go ahead and give me a follow, I’d be really happy.
SPECIAL life update! I forgot to post the last CB which I have drafted, and since I wrote and spent time on it, I’m going to add those paragraphs into this post. So enjoy, my incoherent thoughts from a few weeks ago, I never got to share because I’m an idiot:
Like I said, I’ve been procrastinating like crazy these past few weeks. Partly because I have purchased too many books and now am pretty stretched for money. This doesn’t seem like the kind of reason to dip into savings so I’m literally cruisin’ by with close to nothing. Adulting is hard. Every now and then I think to myself that I’m closing 30 and have almost nothing to show for it. Then I stop thinking about it because it’s way too sad, and think about Henry Cavill’s arm bumping instead. That’s what is keeping me going this summer – that silver lining of seeing THAT man on a big screen in August.
Here we go, I’m powering through all the things I saw and read these past few weeks. First, I saw Alex, Strangelove, a Netflix movie I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I saw it twice during this two weeks and it was even more enjoyable the second time around. Then I saw Hotel Artemis, which I’d gladly forget. I have a review ready to be posted this week so stay tuned. Then, I also saw Set It Up, another Netflix movie that was okay. It wasn’t anything special but it wasn’t awful either.
Ocean’s Eight was my next movie experience last week and I ended up feeling underwhelmed by it. It wasn’t what I expected and I have a few thoughts written down, so expect a review soon too. Though we have to record our podcast episode on it as well, so it won’t be uploaded before that goes online. More like to accompany the episode. Then, as I was graving something good, I ended up watching God’s Own Country and loved it! It was such a subtle little movie and I had so many thoughts about it that I ended up writing a review in 30 minutes.
Back to the past:
Two weeks and three movies – that’s a pretty decent amount considering two of them I saw in the cinema. First though, I saw Legally Blonde again and loved it. It’s so funny and sweet. Then I watched Solo: A Star Wars Story and disliked it quite a bit. Since I’ve never reviewed any Star Wars movie I’m not sure if I will review this one, but I might. And afterwards I rewatched Big, because why the hell not? I was surprised how much I remembered the good parts, and yet had forgotten the part where a grown woman sleeps with a man, who is actually a 13 year old inside. Not creepy at all.
Then, to finish off last week, I got to see Love, Simon! I went alone, there were like two of us all together watching it, and I loved it! It was one of my most anticipated movies this year, and the long wait was worth it. I’m so glad I got to see it before it actually was supposed to premier. It’s so odd, the cinema had like one screening a day for the entire weekend for Love, Simon for no reason. Maybe it’s because school’s over or something? No idea. Expect a review though, a gushing one!
In terms of shows I also made time for some good ones, and some okay ones. I watched a bit of Marcella, which I ended up quitting because it wasn’t captivating enough for me. Then I put on The Handmaid’s Tale and loved every minute of it! I plan to read the book soon, and then give the first season another go before tuning in for the second season. I have a special post planned for that one too, because it inspired me to think outside the box a little.
Then I was craving for something light and fluffy, which is why I binge watched Queer Eye’s first season and a bit of its second one. The show has a good heart and though some things annoy the hell out of me, it’s entertaining. That was exactly what I wanted so I’m not mad at it.
Another one from the past:
In terms of shows, well, I did much better. I caught up with The Good Fight and finished iZombie‘s 4th season. Then binge watched all 8 episodes of Killing Eve which was absolutely wonderful! And then, though not as good, I enjoyed a few episodes of The Arrangement, and finished the first season of 9-1-1. The last one though, man, hat a rough ride. This show is created b y the guys who did American Horror Story and 9-1-1 feels like a mediocre telenovela. The writing is awful, the character building is even worse. And to think this show has Peter Krause, who I adore, Angela Bassett, who is badass, and Connie Britton, who is pretty badass herself. And to think shows like these get renewed while better shows get axed.
Anyway, in June I want to finish The 100 season 2, and get to the second season of 13 Reasons Why. I know both will be rough, because I’ve already seen The 100 up until its third season premier, and well, I’ve heard bad things about the other. Then, since I know that seems like not enough for me, I do want to finish a few shows I have put aside for a while. For instance, I haven’t finished Altered Carbon and The Alienist yet, and I really should. Plus, I still have the very last episode of The Crown to see!
Okay, so finally a very successful reading month has started for me. Last we spoke I was reading Scythe by Neal Shusterman and I ended up liking it. Not loving it, as I predicted a big twist, but highly liked it. Then I reread Love, Simon (I’m calling it by its new name now) by Becky Albertalli for the second time this year, and it was so cute, I couldn’t help but to fall in love with it again. Then I read Love, Hate And Other Filters by Samira Ahmed and it was okay. Young adult romances are always good for summer, which is why I picked it up. Then I reread The Duff by Kody Keplinger and relived the parts I love, and was annoyed a bit more than usual about the parts I don’t like. I wanted to order it online, which I ended up not doing, but thinking back, I’m glad I didn’t. I actually don’t mind not owning it. Then I read The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang which was interesting. It was an adult romance where the main character has Aspergers and it makes for an unique read. Then, as you can see, I read a lot, I finished Save the Date. Now that one I didn’t love as much as I hoped, but I liked it more than the other Morgan Matson books I’ve read.
Now I’m reading An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir and I’m loving it so far. The double POV is always a little weird for me to enjoy, but I’m warming up to it in this book. I’m either a single POV or a multiple POV kind of gal, so it’s always a challenge for a book with two POVs to spark my interest.
Maroon 5 has been around forever, at least that’s how it seems. And I can’t help to like Adam Levine. So I finally watched and listened to their new song, Girls Like You, and I love how versatile it is. It’s a bit like Charlie XCX’s Boys but I’m not mad at that.
