Had to work this morning so I came home pretty late and actually thought about not writing a Commercial Break. But I already skipped last week and I’m actually really trying to push through this weird bloggers block I seem to be suffering from. So, I have my evening coffee (I know, I might be crazy), some chocolate popcorn (delicious), and two weeks to summarise. So, let’s go!
LIFE
I have now been back to work for a week, technically, but I’ve only had 3 shifts during this time. So last week was sort of an easy one for me but this week is going to have 5 straight days of work + some extra work stuff ahead of me. It’s really quite a stressful month for me, especially with a new, and pretty huge a responsibility that has landed onto my desk recently. I’m happy about it but I’m also a bit stressed out ahead of time because I know I’ll have some set backs with this thing during the first couple of months.
Anyway, long story short, I’m not sure how consistent I’m going to be with posting. Especially reviews, man, I’m so behind with those it’s actually scary. But work is important to me as well, and I just today had this very profound moment at work while discussing the reason people work. Do you work for money or do you work to improve your skills? I myself feel like I work to improve my skills, and since I work in the service business, the skills not only include my work tasks but also communication and management. In four years I’ve gained more responsibility and I still have room to grow, so I look forward to new tasks and new opportunities. But there are those who work for money, and I feel like while it is important to have a steady income, it’s also important to be opened to personal growth from said income provider. If you just do something for money then you aren’t really enjoying yourself.. and therefore you don’t like your job. What’s the point of said job then? Yes, I’m not really doing what I would absolutely love to do, but I’m still doing something that I (on really good days) love as well. Isn’t that the point?
In regards to other stuff, I’ve been icing my ankle and taking painkillers to soothe the possibly not completely okay foot for almost three weeks. I think I have to go to the doctor’s with this one and I’m very afraid of the results. It might be just a pretty bad sprain and hopefully they give me like a proper supportive thingie for it, because I work on my feet all day, and not another sick leave. I really can’t handle another sick leave, I’ll be bored out of my mind. Oh and the scar is healing, sort of, I haven’t really looked for any creams or anything for it but I think I have to. I’m going to have a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday and I’m going to ask for advice. Other than that, I feel fine.. yay!
MOVIES
Since I saw Dunkirk and The Beguiled, both of which I need to review asap (Dunkirk’s review is already too long and I haven’t even gotten to the plot), I’ve only seen Atomic Blonde. That’s quite sad really but I honestly don’t feel like watching anything else at the moment. I mean, I won’t be seeing The Dark Tower nor the Emoji Movie and that leaves me with horror movies and.. not much else. August seems a pretty sad month for movies, no?
Anyway, I did enjoy Atomic Blonde but I thought it had a lot of flaws and those really bothered me. I wish McAvoy had a bigger role but he didn’t, which I guess made sense since it was all about Theron. I do have a review planned, in theory, but who knows when I’ll get to it. Soon-ish.
Two movies I might see this month would be The Hitman’s Bodyguard which looks ridiculous but there’s not much else going on anyway. And then American Made, which is a Tom Cruise action film. I do think I might watch The Glass Castle but I rarely watch dramas in the theater, maybe only during a film festivals for some reason. I guess drama is such a difficult genre for me, that I only tend to really watch those movies that I know will be really good and I’m not sure about The Glass Castle.
TRAILERS
Take a moment and watch the latest It trailer and tell me it’s not pretty much the coolest thing you’ve seen? I’m so impressed (probably because I just read the book recently) how well it seems to be adapted from the novel onto the screen and how visually interesting it is. Plus, that voice track behind the trailer is brilliant, just that one sentence on repeat – really great choice!
TV SHOWS
Well, this is embarrassing but I haven’t really watched anything except Ozark’s pilot but since I really want to watch something with my flatmate this month, I sort of stopped there and decided to watch that one with her. We watched The OA like that, and were supposed to watch 13 Reasons Why but stuff happened and she binged it while I still haven’t seen it.
Meanwhile I write down more and more shows I could and should watch and still not watching any of those. Fall is coming closer and that means new shows will surface, and I can already feel the pressure to watch everything while watching nothing. TV has not been my best friend in 2017.
BOOKS & MUSIC
But books, books have been great and I just finished the sixth and last book in The Mortal Instruments series. Then, since I really started to enjoy that series in the end, and while being fueled by my weird addiction towards Shadowhunters, I picked up The Dark Artifices series as well. So, Cassandra Clare month ahead for me, as I plan to read ALL her books this month. No, not crazy at all.. even though I just bought the first two books in The Dark Tower series as well. Guys, I think I need a new bookshelf.. no, I really actually need a new bookshelf.
PS: I received the loveliest present from Maria over at Big City Bookworm – a signed copy of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before! It is beautiful, I love it so much! Plus, there’s a sort of fangirly post coming in regards to that book.. soon-ish. I’m really very very behind with writing blog posts lately. Meanwhile, Maria, just keeps on posting EVERY SINGLE DAY! She’s also my number one source for new books so I recommend checking her blog out, you won’t regret it!
Music wise, I’ve been listening to Tyler The Creator’s new album Flower Boy and it in its entirety is great! I recommend to listen to the album at least once, it’s very soft and smooth with a few sharper tracks here and there, but it just flows so well from start to finish. And in case you want a little taste, then maybe Who Dat Boy, though my personal favourite is Garden Shed.
